Walt Disney World is a 27,000-acre entertainment resort complex located southwest of Orlando, Florida, that opened in 1971 and operates four theme parks—Magic Kingdom, EPCOT, Disney's Hollywood Studios, and Disney's Animal Kingdom—along with water parks, golf courses, and resort hotels. Conceived by Walt Disney in the 1960s as a self-contained destination to overcome Disneyland's spatial limitations, the resort was completed after his death under the direction of his brother Roy and has become the world's most visited vacation destination.
